The Cameos

I love cameos in all sort of settings.They may not be the real agate cameos but still they evoke the same inspiration to me.
My cameos are made of acrylic/resin.Each are brilliantly molded to every bit of details,almost like it was sculpted!It has to be seen to appreciate its true beauty. 
The 40x30,18x13 and 10x8 cameos are available in vintage style goldtone plated(brass)locket.There is a lovely Victorian design stamped at the back of each lockets and a pretty etching surrounds the front which holds the cameos.Each lockets opens up and holds 2 prized photos.Newly added to the collection are pendant settings and brooches both in silver and goldplating.
The lockets and chain are goldplated.They were treated with lacquer to retard tarnishing as claimed by my supplier.It  should stay bright,but if  worn a lot then the plating will eventually wear off in spots where it is in contact with skin and sweat.All cameos,lockets,settings and chain were imported from  US suppliers.

I take pride in the quality and reasonable pricing of each cameo design.As I would like to strike the same interest to souls out there!

Cameo Primer

The original defintition of a cameo is described as "a carving in relief on a naturally occuring substance"which contains different colored layers.The carving must incorporate the contrasting layers in different aspects of the design;most commonly by differentiating between the background and the foreground.The carvings must be done by hand.According to the free-dictionary(on-line)the definition includes "a medallion with a profile cut in raised relief."

Todays definition of cameos includes intaglios as well.

The cameos in the picture are Vintage made from pine resin,and handcarved using dentist's tools by HEIDI LEE.

The most popular cameos today are carved in sea shells,a tradition that begun in the fifiteen or sixteen century and was popularized by Queen Victoria of England.Since that time,cameos have predominantly showcased women's profile,and been worned by women who enjoy the beauty and craftmanship of hand-carved cameos.

The birthplace of cameo was nearly 300 years before the birth of Christ in Alexandria,Egypt,cameos owe their origin to ancient carving traditions.As far back as 15000 B.C,petroglyphs,figures carved into rocks-were used to record significant events and communicate information.About.com

What is Oxidized Brass?

I prefer these popular finish on my pieces as cameos and lockets are reminiscent of the Victorian era and all other period thats comes after.Vintage and vintage-style jewelleries are not the sparkly bright yellow gold that we are so familiar with in our lifetime.SECOND,oxidized supplies WON'T change their color for a long time!10K does!THIRD,its keeps the price down!SO we can enjoy these timeless,classics without sacrificing our kids tuitions,and still be able to enjoy them years from now.

So what is ox,oxidised?OX is the industry abbreviation for oxidized.This means that raw brass components are plated with a rich aged patina,then an antique(oxidized) finish is then applied which has a wonderful vintage appearance.A last layer of non-shiny protective -finish is applied to allow the items to LOOK GREAT for years to come without turning skin " GREEN".

I buy my supplies from this wonderful family-owned business,who according to their FAQ's page,provides "the highest quality brass base metal findings & stampings made in the USA and Europe.There plating company is the same one used by the US Navy,Chicos,The Limited and the PGA".

There is no Lead in brass nor is there any used in the plating process of the items you buy here,unless otherwise noted in the ad.

So,do I sell genuine vintage or just vintage-style jewelleries?BOTH.The word "vintage" I would say had been severely used here in multiply where you see ads selling vintage accessories,vintage t-shirts(!!) and all sorts of things that they could tag as vintage.It crosses me when I see ads like these coz obviously you cant sell a vintage item for P150!a vintage T?

So please read the description on each photo,coz I really do take time to write about each item,so you will know what you are buying and not just attracted to the the beautiful photos.

1.Each piece is made with LOVE and CARING.Precious TIME is devoted to each pieces.In my case my "ME" moments are devoted to creating these pieces,I don't have other people who creates for me,while most of my other time are spend with my 2 active girls.So each handmade pieces are really special.
